NBA Top Shot All-Star Pack Drop

NBA Top Shot will be releasing an All-Star Pack Drop at 9 AM on Friday, March 19. There will only be a total of 36,378 packs available, but each will include one “rare” moment from the 2021 All-Star Game and 6 commons that could be CC or LE. In order to be eligible for this pack drop, you need to already have at least three moments in your collection, and the pack will cost $229.

While it’s a bit pricey, the contents of the pack will assuredly pay for themselves with the All-Star moments alone, as there will only be a total of 2,021 of these produced. To put that number in context, most LE moments come from a batch of 15,000 while CC moments are produced at 35,000-plus. So, these All-Star moments will indeed be ultra-rare.

There are also some really good rookie moments available in this pack, such as LaMelo Ball’s first assist, which currently sells for no less than $3,369 – or Tyrese Haliburton’s first career bucket, a moment that will sell for no less than $1,200. If these are the prices for some of the common cards, imagine what the rare All-Star moments will go for.

The All-Star moments in Pack Drop

James Harden step-back 3-pointer

Kyrie Irving dunk

Jaylen Brown 3-pointer

Jayson Tatum dunk

Zach LaVine layup

Luka Doncic dunk

Nikola Jokic dunk

Stephen Curry 3-pointer

Domantas Sabonis dunk

Kawhi Leonard 3-pointer

Paul George handles

LeBron James dunk

Zion Williamson alley-oop

Julius Randle dunk

Nikola Vucevic 3-pointer

Chris Paul alley-oop dunk

Donovan Mitchell alley-oop dunk

Mike Conley 3-pointer

Rudy Gobert alley-oop dunk

Bradley Beal 3-pointer

The superstars in this set will be worth more than guys like Domantas Sabonis or Rudy Gobert, but any one of these moments will be intensely valuable due to how rare they are. Personally, one of my favorites is the 35-year-old CP3 throwing down an alley-oop jam, but Zion Williamson’s first All-Star appearance may be the most valuable of the group.

As for the other six “common” moments you will receive, there will be a total of 225 from 190 different players, and as previously stated, they will include both CC and LE moments. Below I’ve highlighted the rarest of the common moments available in this pack drop, with the number in parathesis representing how many will be released amongst the 40,420 total packs (36,378 will be available to the public, but NBA Top Shot has set aside an addition 4,4042 for influencers).

As you can see, LaMelo Ball is the golden goose of the bunch, but honestly, you’d be incredibly lucky to snag anyone out of this group. Rookie moments are inherently valuable, and as I’ve said in previous columns, the current values of these moments could skyrocket once NBA Top Shot gets out of beta.

There will also be a new “challenge” released with the All-Star Pack Drop. A challenge is something they do with each drop, in which they require collectors to acquire a specific set of moments to unlock a rare one. For this pack, the challenge reward will include an ultra-rare All-Star moment from both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard.

It’s important to know what moments will be required for completing the challenge because those moments will spike in value while the challenge is active. As an example, there is currently a Welcome to the All-Star Family challenge available, which requires collectors to add some CC moments of Victor Oladipo, Bam Adebayo, Karl-Anthony Towns, DeMar DeRozan and Pascal Siakam in order to unlock a rare Mike Conley. Now, typically a CC moment won’t go for much more than $10, but because these moments are part of a challenge, you currently can’t get any one of them for under $65. So, if you happen to have one of those CC moments, now would be a good time to sell, as they will likely tank in value once the challenge is over.

So good luck in your pack hunting, everyone. Set your alarms and be ready at 9 AM on Friday, because there will assuredly be 100,000-plus other people eagerly trying to get their mitts on their first pack drop.
